The San Geronimo Valley is an eclectic community that includes the San Geronimo, Forest Knolls, and Lagunitas.  The valley has outdoor activities for everyone, golf, horseback riding, meditation, cycling, and hiking in the redwoods.  It also maintains some interesting public schools in that they are not traditional classrooms.

The Lagunitas Elementary School holds the distinction of being the only public Montessori school in Marin County.  The Montessori program serves grades K-5.  Students in grades 6-8 follow a flexible block schedule.

SGV Elementary offers two programs to students.  The Open Classroom program serves grades K-6 and the Waldorf-inspired program serves grades K-1. Classes are multi-graded and rely on parent participation in the classroom.

A California Distinguished School, Drake High School has been identified by the US Department of Education as a New American High School.  The program emphasized a College Prep program, but provides for all levels of ability and interest.  This school is a Certified Green Business by the County of Marin
